How to Unfollow Facebook Friends

Your Facebook News Feed is a convenient way to catch up on the activities of family and friends. Unfortunately, a Facebook friend might be the source of recurring posts, shared articles, and opinion rants that annoy, offend or bore you.

Fortunately, it's easy to unfollow that friend on Facebook, so you don't see their posts. You'll remain Facebook friends officially, and you can still exchange messages over Messenger, but you won't have to see their posts when you open your News Feed. Here's how to unfollow a Facebook friend.

There are several easy ways to unfollow a Facebook friend. Unfollow from their post, profile page, or from News Feed Preferences in the Settings menu.

Unfollow From a Post

  1. Go to any post made by the person you want to unfollow.

  2. Select the three dots on the top right of their post.

  3. Select Unfollow. You won't see any more of this person's posts, but you're still Facebook friends.

    If you unfollow someone, your posts are still visible to them unless they also block or Unfollow you.

Unfollow From Their Profile Page

Here's another way to unfollow a Facebook friend.

  1. Go to the profile page of the friend you want to unfollow.

  2. Hover over Following near their cover photo. (On the app, tap the three dots below their cover photo.)

Unfollow From News Feed Preferences

Here's yet another way to unfollow someone.

  1. Go to your profile page and select the down arrow on the top menu bar. (In the app, tap the three horizontal lines on the bottom.)

  2. Select News Feed Preferences. (In the app, tap Settings and then News Feed Preferences.)

  3. Select Unfollow People and Groups to Hide Their Posts.

  4. Select the person you want to unfollow, and then select Done.

Re-Follow Unfollowed Facebook Friends

If you change your mind and want to see posts from your unfollowed friend again, it's easy to do.

  1. Go to your Facebook profile page.

  2. Select the down arrow from the top menu bar. (In the app, tap the three horizontal lines on the bottom.)

  3. Select News Feed Preferences. (In the app, tap Settings and then News Feed Preferences.)

  4. Select Reconnect with people and groups you unfollowed.

  5. Select the person you want to reconnect with, and then select Done. You'll once again see this person's posts on your News Feed.

Consider snoozing a person instead of unfollowing them if you just need a break. Snoozing prevents you from seeing their posts in your News Feed for 30 days.
