From , former About.com Guide

How old are you?
59

When did you start your site?
February 28, 2000

Marital Status?
Married

Occupation - What kind of work do you do?
I am "retired" - a wonderful time in my life in which I can now do all the things that I have always wanted to do, but, never had the time to.

Hobbies - What do you like to do, besides keep this site?

I love to have flowers on my inside plants bloom in the middle of the winter. I am always improving my "natural" garden which attracts, protects and feeds my wildlife. I grow from seed special heirloom vegetables from around the world.

Location - Where are you from? Where are you now?
Originally from Brooklyn, New York. I grew up in an area devoid of gardens and animals. When I moved to Long Island thirty-four years ago, I thought I died and went straight to heaven.

Why did you start writing your Web site?
In 1999, my Christmas present from my youngest son was FrontPage 2000. Not wanting to be a "hi-tech" failure in his eyes, I took the tutorial - something I usually never do, but, in this case I felt was absolutely necessary since I couldn't tell "HTML" from "ATM"! Although I really enjoyed making my site, I thought that only my family and close friends would read my stories - and that only because they loved me. I had no clue how many duck lovers are out there in cyberspace!

What is your site about?
My site is dedicated to my "wild friends" who give me so much pleasure.

Why do you write a site about your ducks and your garden?

I love sharing my insights with other nature lovers.

Do you communicate with readers of your site?
Absolutely! Vistors have signed my Guest Book and I've received e-mails from duck lovers all over the world. I respond to each e-mail and Guest Book entry and always marvel at the fact that I am so easily communicating with someone across the world.

How much email feedback do you receive from your site? Is it mainly positive or negative?
I receive quite a bit of e-mail and it's overwhelmingly positive.

Have you met any new friends because of the site?
Yes. A professional story teller in New Jersey is telling my tales at nature centers and at nursing homes. Duck lovers invited me to join their duck e-Group which I did and now totally enjoy. Collie breeders helped me find a new puppy. A Long Island family needed a good home for their duck. I took him in and we e-mail regularly.

Has your motivation changed over time?
Yes, in the beginning I only enjoyed telling my stories. Now, I enjoy all the interaction.

How has it changed your life?
By sharing my stories and learning that others have truly enjoyed them, I have become the richer for it.

Do your friends and family know you keep this site/read it? If so have you had any really negative experiences as a result? If not why?
I have only had positive experiences and encouragement from family and friends.

How has your Web site benefited you? Your friends? Or total strangers?
We all share our wildlife stories and experiences and, I think, it gives us all a very good feeling inside.

If you had to do it over again from the beginning, what would you change?
I would have created my web site sooner!

What are your favorite things on your site?
My trials and tribulations of attempting to mix "Gardening and Ducks", my tale of "Peepers - the $227.00 Duckling" and my tribute to my longtime friend, my collie, Gypsy Blue.

When looking at other people's Web sites what do you look for as a viewer?
I am a bit old fashioned, I guess. I like sites where words are paramount and pictures and special effects play a secondary role.
