This was my attempt to learn about my father's family of which I had little to go on. My dad had passed away, his family was scattered to the wind and he had hardly knew his own cousins. He had always told us that his background was Irish, Chickasaw and Choctaw. It was tantalizing, but their was nothing to substantiate the history.
Then, my aunt gave me a copy of the only family history we knew of; typed on 3 or 4 sheets of paper and copied on a mimeograph ...a oral interview of my great great grandmother in the 1930's.
She had been an interview subject for the WPA Oklahoma Indian-Pioneer Interviews which are approximately 120 volumes of interviews describing the peoples and their lives in the Indian Territory.
Now I had my clue to discover my father's family. I published the interview on the web and invited people to email me if they knew anything about this family.
They did and I posted everything I learned, hoping it would aid others and also continue to bring knowledge of my family.
Over the years my site has enabled me to contact and reacquaint with long lost family members. My Uncle has travelled now to some first cousins homes and to the Chickasaw Nation.
The Governor of the Chickasaw Nation had visited the site numerous times and commended me on my efforts. He encouraged the Chickasaw Nation to start a site for the Nation shortly after visiting my site. They have had a link to my site from the beginning.
The guest book has been a wonderful place to visit and glean additional information about family and others who lived at that time. It has recreated a long lost past that all can visit.
