Contact Manager to Windows OS; Cross-Platform Compatibility Benefits Windows, Mac Users

COLUMBUS, OHIO — October 14, 2003 — Now Software, makers of the #1 best selling calendar and contact manager, Now Up-to-Date® & Contact® (NUDC), today announced the general release of Now Up-to-Date & Contact for Windows, marking the first full, complete migration of the well-known Macintosh calendar/contact manager application to the Windows operating system. With the debut of NUDC for Windows, Macintosh and Windows users will finally be able to share personal and professional contact and appointment information while also giving Windows users the benefit of the industry’s most popular Personal Information Manager (PIM) application.

Now Up-to-Date & Contact, introduced for the Apple Macintosh in the early 1990’s, has become the PIM of choice for millions of Mac users worldwide. Winning accolades from editors, columnists, industry experts and users alike, the application is renowned for its intuitive interface, powerful data management features, easy versatility, and high productivity.

“Now Up-to-Date & Contact for Windows is the culmination of a long, deliberate process to create a PIM product as reliable, as easy-to-use, and as valuable to Windows users as it is to the Macintosh community,” said John Wallace, president of Now Software. “We’re proud and excited to be able to offer Windows and Macintosh users the power, convenience, and cross-platform information sharing capability found in Now Up-to-Date & Contact for Windows.”

Individuals, Families, Businesses

Like its Macintosh counterpart, the new Now Up-to-Date & Contact for Windows is designed for business, individual, or family use. The features and user interface mirror Now Up-to-Date & Contact for Macintosh (OS X version)—in fact, for most users, the screens are indistinguishable.

Comprised of two separate, yet fully interoperable products, Now Up-to-Date and Now Contact,

NUDC is designed to work the way people do. The application enables true sharing of network calendars and address books among family members or work groups, allowing users to automatically update their calendar and contacts from anywhere via Internet access. What’s more, special Web features allow users to look up address information and maps, select restaurants, view the weather, and much more.

Among the most popular features of Now Up-to-Date, the calendar component, is a To-Do List that features drag-n-drop movement of tasks and appointments to and from the user’s calendar. On-screen sticky notes, multiple-month views, and printing support for Daytime/DayRunner, Franklin Covey Planner, and Filofax paper stocks are just some of the application’s handy features.

Now Contact offers its own advantages. A Quick Contact menu for often-called people or numbers is included, along with one-click file links to documents or spreadsheets associated with a contact. A space is included on each record page for a portrait or other photo. Instant web service access also allows users to quickly scan the weather in a contact person’s city, or to view maps that direct them to the contact’s street address, among other possibilities.

Now Up-to-Date & Contact, in both its Windows and Mac iterations, is especially well suited for personal use within the corporate setting. Private categories in Now Up-to-Date allow users to maintain personal appointments and keep them private, yet block the time from group scheduled events. A Meeting Scheduling feature also lets people schedule meetings automatically—simply specify who is to attend, and the software instantly searches for times/places that are available for all.

Cross-Platform Sharing

“One of the biggest needs for Macintosh users of Now Up-to-Date & Contact is the ability to share calendar and contact information with Windows users,” noted Wallace. “NUDC for Windows finally satisfies that need.”

Now Up-to-Date & Contact for Windows enables seamless and complete transfer of data with any other NUDC application, Windows or Macintosh, over a home or enterprise network. The cross-platform capability not only makes NUDC data sharing possible between users, but also between separate machines of people who use both Macs and PCs, either at home or the office.

Pricing and Availability

Now Up-to-Date & Contact for Windows is currently shipping and is priced at $129.00 for the boxed version, or $119.00 for the online download version. Volume licensing is also available for education, business, organizational, and government customers.
