Yahoo! 360 Closing, Here's the Scoop

The rumor's been going around that Yahoo! 360 is shutting down. I've found out that it's not, not in the sense that it'll be totally gone anyway. What they're really doing is a reconstruction.

On the Yahoo! 360 Product Blog, Matt Warburton, Yahoo! Community Manager, talks about the reconstruction, how they're doing it and why they're doing it. It seems that what they're going to do is take Yahoo! 360, Mash and Yahoo! Profiles and combine them into one big stupendous social networking site.

In case you didn't know about Yahoo! Profiles, let me fill you in. Long before there were social networking sites there were sites where you could create a profile and connect to other people that also had profiles on the same service. You would have a forum to talk to people and anyone could upload photos.

Sounds like a social networking site doesn't it? In a way it is, but not in the same way Yahoo! 360 is a social networking site. It's more like a group feature on a social networking site. Over the years it's managed to bring a lot of people together. Now it'll be even better.

Yahoo! Mash is a blogging community. Blogging communities are a lot like social networking sites too. They allow people to interact with each other and do a lot of the same things social networking sites do.
