A lot of people write to me to ask me what they should write their Web site about. I tell them, write about what you are interested in, what your passions are. I can't tell you what is right for you, nobody can. You are the only one who knows what you really, really like and what you would be willing to write about.
The most popular thing people write about, on their Web sites, are themselves and their family. If you want to tell the world about yourself, who you are and what your interests are then you can write a site about yourself. If you want to show off your children, or other family members, by telling stories about them and posting pictures then write about them. Maybe you have a really interesting life and would like to tell people how they can do the things that you like to do.
Have you ever kept a diary? Well, now you can keep it online. That's right, you heard me, online where everyone can read it. Online diaries are extremely popular. Talk about personal. You don't get anymore personal than that without getting censored.
Anyone can write and run a Web site. Even teenagers and children. Sometimes the young people are the ones that write the best sites. They talk about things that are going on in their lives and often do things to help others who are going through the same things.
Speaking of sites that help people. Some choose to write their sites just for that sole purpose. They write educational sites for children and for adults. If you know something and you think it can benefit someone else, maybe you could write a site like this. Maybe you are a very funny person. You could write a site that includes jokes or comics.
A couple other popular things to write a personal Web site about are pets, hobbies and holidays. If you love your pets you could write a site about them or for them. Some of the cat sites I have come across are written from the cat's point of view. Maybe you really love a particular holiday. Are you a Christmas fiend or are you crazy about Halloween? Write about it. Tell people what you really think. Make the pages colorful and informative, if you want to. Do you have a particular interest or hobby that you really enjoy? Share your passion! Are you a Trekkie? Do you like to knit? Are you crazy about Survivor? Whatever it is, you can write about it.
Webcams are something special. Not only are you telling about yourself, but you are letting people watch you. If you really want to get the attention of the Web surfers out there, this is the way to do it. Most people are natural voyeurs at heart, that's why an accident on the other side of the highway causes traffic on your side of the highway. They will watch you just to see what you are up to and what you will do next.
Were you ever surfing the Net and came across a Web page that seemed to be about nothing? Or it was so fake it was obvious? This is what Netizens refer to as a worst of the Web page. If you have any questions on what is a worst of the Web page please refer to my definition of this phrase. These are probably the most fun you will have on the Net. They are humorous, wacky, sarcastic and very interesting.
I've saved the best for last. Even though these are not the most popular types of personal Web pages they are among the most personal. These are the pages I have dubbed "Humanity". These are pages that tell about your religion or culture, search for your ancestry, search for missing children, or about a loved one that has passed or a tragedy that has affected your life.
You don't have to write your whole site about the same thing either. You could write one page about you, one about your family, one about your dog and one about your hobby. Then link them all together to create your personal Web site.
Personal means just that. When you write your personal Web page it should be about what ever you want it to be about and you should make it as personal as you want it to be. It's yours and yours alone. Do with it what you will and have fun.
