Using HTML

Using HTML

If you would rather use HTML to create your site or if you have done as much as you can with your site and want to do more, you can. HTML is necessary if you want to use JavaScript, DHTML or anything else you can't do with this program.

To get to where you can use HTML, first you need to log in to the program as though you were going to use the "easy editor". Then instead of choosing a Web site theme, click on "Account Management and Advanced Tools" on the page. The next page will tell you how much space you have and how much you have left. It also gives you two options: use the "FreeForm Editor" or view your "FileManager".

The "FreeForm Editor" is where you want to go if you want to create a new Web page or edit an old one. You will be taken to a page with a box, where you can enter your code. There are several buttons at the top of the page for your use:

  • New - This will put blank code in the box, all ready for you to change and create a Web page with.

  • Open - This will allow you to open any of the other pages that you have created thus far to edit them as you see fit.

  • Color Palette - This one is a link and not a button like the others. When you click on it a box will pop up with 224 colors for you to choose from. When you click on one of the colors, you will be given the code for it so you can change the color of your background, text and links.

  • Preview - Preview will open another browser window with the page you are working on in it so you can see what it will look like to your readers.

  • Save - This will save your page file.

  • Save As - If you haven't already named your page file or if you want to save it again with a different name (this will give you two pages that are identical but with different names), you can use this to name your file and save it at the same time.

  • Done - When you are finished editing and saving your page, this will take you to a page that tells you it has been saved and gives you the address of the page. You will also be given two options: "Edit this page" or "Create a new page".

FTP is not availabe with this tool, but there is a file upload feature. Using this feature is fairly simple. While in the file manager, click on the drop down box that says "Upload via" in it. Then click on "single files (8)" inside the box.

Now another page will come up where you can choose your files from several boxes. You can upload up to eight different files all at once from here. Click on "Browse", choose your file and rename it if you want to. Do the same in each box for as many files as you want to upload. Then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Upload". Now you can link to these files from anywhere on your site.

This HTML editing tool is more advanced then some of the others that I have used online. I really like it and would recommend it to you if you are interested in using HTML to design your site.
