Pinterest mobile for Android and iOS

Pinterest doesn't offer developers a robust, third-party development platform. Still, the company does offer official mobile apps for both Android and Apple iOS devices. There are three official mobile apps for the image-sharing network.

iPhone Pinterest App

The dedicated iPhone app lets you do about everything you'd do on the Pinterest website on your iPhone. You can access your Pinterest account if you're a registered user or browse images if you're not.

Images display large enough to be able to see them.

In addition, the iPhone version is nicely focused. The app shows five buttons across the bottom of the screen, icons for Following, Explore, Camera, Activity, and Profile:

  • Following lets you browse recent pins of people you follow.
  • Explore shows various themed categories you can browse.
  • Camera enables you to take a picture and pin it with your phone.
  • Activity shows the same summary displayed on the left sidebar of the website.
  • Profile shows your Profile page, summarizing your number of followers, people followed boards, pins, and likes. Click on each to browse other people's boards, pins, and profiles.

Two slick touches can save pinned images from Pinterest.com to your iPhone camera roll and the ability to take pictures with your iPhone camera and save them to your boards on Pinterest.com.

Pinterest iPad App

The Pinterest iPad app is bundled with the official iPhone app but offers a different design and functionality differences. The iPad app takes advantage of the iPad touchscreen, so you can swipe to the side and view a list of available categories.

The iPad app has a built-in web browser and an integrated pin-it button to pin images to your Pinterest boards. Users, however, have complained about the lack of tabs in the browser.

All in all, it's a decent app, even though it doesn't allow for advanced editing for boards and sometimes feels a bit unstable.

Pinterest Android App

The Pinterest application for Android devices has won mostly positive reviews from users. It makes pinning speedy and straightforward and covers most of the essential functions available on the website pinterest.com reasonably well.

The app provides access to the Following tab from your home feed, suggests ideas from most recently engaged boards, and makes it easy to find your boards as well as individual pins.

Other iPad Options

If you have an iPad and don't want to install the official Pinterest app, use the built-in Safari browser and add the Pin It bookmarklet to the bookmarks bar.
