Tools and Tip Giving Sites

Throughout the year I introduced you to several different sites that can help you add interactivity to your site and some programs that you can try out for free. There was Server.com where you can get WebApps for your site to add such things as forms, bulletin boards, calendars and guestbooks all by just filling out a form. Next there was Echo Web that has tutorials for all aspects of Web design and even offers hosting for your site. BraveNet offers all sorts of tools to help you build community on your site and also have a lot of fun. I also showed you how you can keep track of your stats. You can now figure out not only how many people are coming to your site but also where they are from and when they visit you.

Earlier in the season I briefly reviewed a shareware version of Cool Page. More recently I have provided you with sites where you can get shareware versions of this and many other Web editing software and FTP clients as well as freeware and shareware programs to help you design graphics and add even more interactivity to your site. I did this at the end of the year because some of these programs would make great gifts for those aspiring Web designers in your life. On top of these I also told you about some books that are really good that either you could use to learn more about Web design or you can give as a gift.

Graphics, Color & Sound

Many of you wanted to know how you could make you site look better. That's why I wrote a feature on how to add clip art and other graphics to your Web site. I even included a section on where to get the graphics from. Then I helped you add color to your site. Here we not only added color to your background but we also changed the color of your text and links. On top of regular graphics and colors I also helped you create an image map of your very own using any graphic or image you wanted to use.

Sound is a whole different aspect of the Web. It adds another dimension. Not only can someone see your site but now they can hear it as well. There were two features written to this end. The first one explained how you can make your own sound recordings and the second showed you how to put the sound file on your Web page so anyone can hear it.
