Corey was new to the Internet and one day she was in a chat and her friends where talking about their Web site. She didn't know what they were talking about: "Web pages are for companies and institutions," she thought. She asked them what they meant and they told her that anyone could have a Web site and it could be about anything at all.
She went to her friend's Web sites and thought, "WOW! This is great! I need to learn how to do this." Some of them even had Web sites where they kept diaries, stories and pictures of their families. She thought this was fabulous and wanted to learn how to do this so she could have a Web site of her own.
Corey found some sites that taught HTML and some that taught Web design and got herself a good book about the same. "Now," she thought, "I am ready to begin." So she set off on her new adventure into the wondrous world of Web paging.
Where To Put It
"Where to start, where to start," she mused. Getting started was not as easy as she thought it would be. The first thing she needed to do was to find a place to put her Web site. There are so many different places that host free Web sites how do you chose one. There are Geocities, Tripod, Freeservers, and so many others. After reviewing them she chose one and signed up.After signing up she discovered that there are a couple different ways to create your Web page. You can learn HTML and use an text editor or you can use a Web page building program both of which are provided by the one she chose. She could also download a Web page editor and send the files over to the hosting service using and FTP program, but she decided not to go that route for now.
Which one should she use? Since she knows nothing about HTML she decides that she will write her first page with the Web page building program. By then she will know more about HTML and will write the rest of her pages with that.
