Age - How old are you now?

About.com Rating 5

By Linda Roeder, About.com

I'm 17.

When you started your online diary?
The first post of any meaning was Oct 16 of 2000.

Marital Status?
Single. I've had one girlfriend when I was in tenth grade. I've learned a lot from that experience. 99.9% of the women I've met place more value on what is "outside" of them than what is "inside".

Occupation - What kind of work do you do?

I'm currently a highschool senior. Afterwards: UGA. As for work I am a system administrator of an ISP in southeast Georgia.

Hobbies - What do you like to do, besides keep this diary?
I enjoy kite surfing, kite buggying, throwing discs, meeting people, and meditating.

Location - Where are you from? Where are you now?
I live on a not-so-quaint island about an hour north of Jacksonville, Florida. Saint Simons Island.

Why did you start writing your diary online?
Some say to find women. I think that I use it to solidify my person. When I write something it becomes part of me.

Do you communicate with readers of your diary?
Yes. I'm much more motivated to write you back if you mention something controversial or a philisophical detail about yourself. Anything along this plane.

How much email feedback do you recieve from your diary? Is it mainly positive or negative?
95% Positive.

Have you met any new friends because of the diary?
I have several correspondents which I am very glad to know. Due to distance limitations, meetings are rare.

Has your motivation changed over time?

I've always had feelings that I could not explain with words. Over time these feelings surface into words and I write them.

I've realized that my purpose in life is to help people.

How has the diary changed your life?
It hasn't. I expect to be able to look at it 83 years from now and smile.

Do your friends and family know you keep this journal/read it? If so have you had any really negative experiences as a result? If not why?
Yes. My mother once "forcefully urged" me to remove all references to atheism on my website. Big argument: I don't believe in censorship and I will not become a hypocrite to please you.

How has the diary benefited you? Your friends? Or total strangers?
83 years from now.....

When I meet people I'll give them my website and email address. That way if we are total strangers with only 15 seconds to spare they can read my website and decide if they want further contact.

Has your diary ever gotten you in trouble? If so, how? Scenerio: If you were wronged by a person that you know reads your diary, would you bash them anyway? What about family? What about co-workers?
Can't think of a time.

If you had to do it over again from the beginning, what would you change?

I dwell not on the past, but on the future with reference to the present.

Do you have any favorite entries?
Yes, but my website is not yet setup to link to individual articles. Emphasis on the yet.

What do you look for in an online journal, as a reader?
Philosophy. Controversy. Love of humanity.

Do you use your real name in your diary?
Yes - Elijah Alexander Kalifka Kay Chancey

Do you censor yourself in your diary?
Censorship was invented by people that are not comfortable with themselves. The answer is a definite no.

Do you ever use fiction techniques such as imaginary dialogue?
Occasionally with the poetry.

Do you ever significantly edit/rewrite past entries?
I hardly check for spelling/gramatical errors, much less rewrites. Why slaughter your thoughts?

Would you describe your diary as traditional, essay, novel, rant, letter to someone, a theme journal, or something different?
Metaphorical.

What is "one word" that would describe your diary's content?
Metaphorical.

As an online diarist do you consider yourself a Web celebrity, an exhibitionist, a public figure, a writer, an innovator, or something different?
I consider myself human. I wish to understand the apparent underlying harmony which is everything.

How do you tackle the mechanics of Web design and how do you deal with your frustrations when you can't do what you envision.
I try to keep the code small and efficient. When I can't do what I envision I take the opportunity to do research. Most recently PHP. Next time: SQL

Why do you think people are interested in what you have to say?
I assume people surf diaries for entertainment. Perhaps self-fulfillment. I'd rather concentrate on the content than the reason.

What compels you to design beautiful pages and to write from the heart (beyond just the usual question of "why an online journal")?
This is like: Why breathe? This is me.
