Age - How old are you now?
31

When you started your online diary?
My first entry, entitled 'Waking up to green mice', was posted January 15, 2000

Marital Status?
Engaged to my soulmate. We'll be married in July of this year.

Occupation - What kind of work do you do?

I'm a consultant with a fairly large software company. My job varies, depdnign on the project to which I'm sent. I've doen performance and tuning on databases, actual implementations, etc. Probably my most challenging project so far has been the on on which I'm working currently, as I'm acting as a development manager for my company's largest current software implementation.

Hobbies - What do you like to do, besides keep this diary?
I love to read, curled up somewhere with a book and a cat or three. I love roleplaying games (mostly tabletop and online Mushes). I also enjoy writing, camping and hiking, getting together with my friends and laughing til we cry.

Location - Where are you from? Where are you now?
I'm currently in Northern California, and happy to be staying in pretty much one place. My dad was in the Air Force so we traveled quite a bit when we were kids. Let's just say the novelty wore off.

Why did you start writing your diary online?

I've kept a paper journal for probably about 15 years now, mainly to help myself remember when things happened, and how I felt at the time. I've also dabbled in writing - fiction, poetry, even worked briefly as a freelance writer during college. I saw a few online journals and thought 'hey, that looks like fun', so I decided to add it to the ways in which I write.

Do you communicate with readers of your diary?
I make it a point to answer all email received from my journal.

How much email feedback do you recieve from your diary? Is it mainly positive or negative?
I don't receive all that much feedback. However, all of it has been positive - people writing to say that they could relate to an entry I wrote. Most of the feedback I get is from friends and family who read it.

Have you met any new friends because of the diary?
Not really. I've found a few new journals that I read regularly because of those who email me, but nothing has progressed beyond mere acquaintences, and the occasional email.

Has your motivation changed over time?

Not really. I began writing because I wanted to be able to express myself, and I enjoyed it. I still do it for that reason. If anything, my writing itself has changed. I'd like to think it's gotten better (but then that may be just wishful thinking).

How has the diary changed your life?
It makes me try to pay attention to details more. There've been all sorts of times when I'll see something, or experience something, and my head begins to spin around how to craft an entry out of it. And it's also inspired me to be better about keeping my personal paper journal too.

Do your friends and family know you keep this journal/read it? If so have you had any really negative experiences as a result? If not why?
I've never made a secret of this journal to my friends and family, and because of that I haven't gotten any negative feedback. This does mean I have to censor things a bit, but it's a price I'd rather pay than to hurt the people I care about. It does feel a bit odd though, sometimes, to know that people I *know* read this. Somehow it's easier to write when you think it's for total strangers.

How has the diary benefited you? Your friends? Or total strangers?
It's definitely benefited me - simply because it gives me an outlet to write and do something I love. I think it's given my friends another insight into my head - I have one friend who reads it precisely for that reason, he says (grin). And it's also allowed me to express some feelings that perhaps wouldn't have come out as well if I'd merely spoken them aloud.

Has your diary ever gotten you in trouble? If so, how? Scenerio: If you were wronged by a person that you know reads your diary, would you bash them anyway? What about family? What about co-workers?
I've never gotten in trouble for my journal, probably because I'm always very aware of the fact that people I know read it. I don't mention names unless those friends also have an online presence. And I would never bash a friend publicly in the journal. That is certainly not the right medium in which to do so.
