Create A Tribute Or Memorial Page For Free

Tell The World How You Feel!

By

During the weeks following the World Trade Center, Pentagon and Pennsylvania crash tragedies, there were many new memorial sites added to the Net. The majority of these have to do with everything that happened on September 11, 2001 and in the days that followed.

If you don't have a page like this yet, but you want to create one, here are some tips and tutorials that will get you started.

The Basics

If you have never created a Web site before you may need to learn the basics of HTML and Web design first. First take Jennifer Kyrnin's HTML 101 Course. She will take you through the basics, step-by-step. If you need more help, while taking her course you can check out the tutorial that I have put together.

When you are finished learning HTML you can go on to my Web Design course. Here you will learn what you need to have a successful Web site. You will even learn how you can create your site without knowing HTML using some of the online tools that some hosting providers offer.

What To Include

What is your memorial page about? Make sure you tell people all about it. If it's about an event, tell about the event. When did it happen? Where did it happen? Who was there? What was the outcome?

If it's about a person, tell about that person. Who was he/she? What did they do? Where were they from? What relation do they have to you?

If you have relevent pictures, post them. Describe a little bit about what the picture is about and what's going on in it. Tell stories. People love to read stories, especially first hand accounts.

If you want people to send you information they have about the event or comment on a relation to the person the page is about, post your email address. If you are looking for more information about the event or the person, ask! You never know, someone reading your site just may have the information you are looking for. If you have written poems related to the site, by all means post them.

Web Space and Software

You will need a place to put your site. For this you will need to sign up with a Web site hosting provider. Some of them, like Google Page Creator, have templates specially designed for creating many types of Web sites. If you are using these you will not need to know HTML.

If you prefer to use Web editing software, there are a variety of them out there. Some of them are very good and others are not. If you choose to use them you will not need to know HTML, but you will have to learn to use the program.

Graphics

When you have your site written you will be ready to make it look good. To do this you may want to add some clip art. You can find graphics that are made for these types of sites including: backgrounds, borders, dividers, wills, grave stones, parchment charts and much more. On top of this type of clip art you can also find free clip art graphics of other types to create a special feeling or theme to your site.
