But there's so much more to know about how to use Facebook's homepage than just what you see on the surface. Let me show you some tricks you can use, and just how you can go about how to use Facebook's homepage.

Hiding a Friend's Messages

Maybe you don't want to see any of the messages from a particular friend. Part of learning how to use Facebook's homepage is learning how to block messages from friends whos messages you don't want to read.

  1. Move your mouse to the right side of one of your friend's messages, a menu will pop up.

  2. Click on the menu.

  3. You'll see an option that has the word "hide" and then your friend's name.

  4. Click that option and your friend's messages will disappear.

Adding a Friend Back

Oops! Accidentally hid a friend's messages, but didn't mean to? Here's how you can add them back into the feed.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of your Facebook homepage.

  2. Click "Edit Options".

  3. A box will pop up with all the people you've hidden. Click "Add To News Feed" next to the person you want to add back.

Read Hidden Posts

If you're really bored and need something to read, unhide some posts and see what your hidden friends are saying. One trick to finding out how to use Facebook's homepage is finding out how you can read posts you've banned from your Facebook homepage.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page.

  2. Click "Show Hidden Posts".

Hiding Applications From Messages

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page.

  2. Click on "Edit Options".

  3. In the box that pops up click on "Applications" at the top.

  4. Then click on "Add To News Feed" next to the application that you want to add back.

Attach a Link to Your Message

This is different than adding a link in your message. To do that you would just type or paste the link right into the message. This is a special feature that lets you showcase the website you're linking to. By just using the URL, Facebook will pull in the page's title and description for you.

  1. Right under the "What's on your mind" box is an icon that says "Link", click on it.

  2. Type or paste the website's link into this box and click "Attach".

  3. Type your message into the "What's on your mind" box, if you have a message, and click "Share" as usual.

Adding Photos in Messages

Photos are so much fun and Facebook gives you three different ways to add photos to your Facebook homepage. You don't know how to use Facebook's homepage until you can add photos to it.

  1. After clicking in the "What's on your mind" box you'll see an icon that says "Photos" next to it, click on this.

  2. Click "Upload a Photo" to choose a photo from your computer.

  3. Choose "Take a Photo" to take a photo, right now, using your webcam.

  4. Choose "Create an Album" if you want to create a Facebook photo album. Then choose a photo from the album to add to your message after adding it to the photo album.

Adding Videos to Messages

There are two ways to add videos straight to your Facebook messages. Learning how to use Facebook's homepage is a cinch even when it comes to adding videos.

  1. After clicking in the "What's on your mind" box you'll see an icon that says "Videos" next to it, click on this.

  2. If you already have a video on your computer that you want to upload just click on "Upload a Video" and upload it.

  3. If you want to upload something live from your webcam, click on "Record a Video" and use your webcam to record and add your new video to your Facebook homepage.

Adding Applications to Messages

Learning how to use Facebook's homepage has to have something to do with adding Facebook applications, so here it goes. This is how you go about adding applications to your Facebook homepage messages.

  1. After clicking in the "What's on your mind" box you'll see an arrow all the way to the right next to the word "Causes", click on the arrow.

  2. Choose an application from the list.

  3. Fill out or choose whatever you need to do inside the application box.

  4. Add your message and click "Share".
