Cotton Candy Friends vs Real Friends

What is a Cotton Candy Friend?

I'm not going to give you a definition of what a cotton candy friend is because Vanessa Van Petten of Radical Parenting has already done that. She coined the phrase and defined the phrase and I don't want to infringe on her in any way.

What I do want to say about cotton candy friends is that I believe they are more than just empty calories. I believe you do get some substance from your cotton candy friends, maybe I would add that they are cotton candy with some vitamins added. You may gain some strength from them and you may learn something about them or yourself that you otherwise may not have learned.

What are Cotton Candy Friends For?

Every morning and every day after work I go to my Facebook and read through all my friend's Facebook posts. Why? Certainly not because I have to, because I don't. Not one of my friends would know either way if I'd read the posts or not, well, maybe my son would know. If I didn't post comments, people would just think I didn't have something to say, or that I was to busy to comment, no problem.

I read the posts because I learn things. I find out that one of my friends is going somewhere and I'm going to be there too, maybe we can meet up. I find out that they did something that I'm interested in, now I want to email them to find out more. I find out that a friend I haven't seen in years is getting married, I can congratulate her and send her a gift.
