Tumblr is a free Web publishing tool that people use to share content they find online. Tumblr falls into a category of social media often called micro-blogging because it basically publishes blogs containing short "micro" posts.

Tumblr is a third-generation blogging tool with advanced social media features for curating and sharing content. It was designed from the outset to integrate easily with other social media services such as Facebook, Twitter and popular mobile phone apps. That's why some people call the "tumblelogs" people create social blogs.

Tumblr Is About Simplicity

Tumblr touts itself as being easy to use, which may be why millions of people have opened Tumblr accounts and started blogging with Tumblr. Learning how to use Tumblr does not take much time or skill.

Tumblr is especially easy to use on mobile phones. You can publish to your Tumblr blog (or tumblelog, as users say) in about three clicks on most of the major mobile phone services.

Tumblr Posts by Media Type

Tumblr also makes it easy to share different media formats. In addition to text, you can publish photos, audio clips, video files, quotes, Web links and "chats" which appear as interactive dialogues.

You do most of your "tumbling" or publishing on Tumblr from your dashboard. There is also a directory of Tumblr users where you can find people to "follow" which means subscribing to their Tumblr posts.

Customize Tumblr's Design with a Few Clicks

Click "Customize" and you'll find a ton of pre-designed page themes that make it easy to change the look and feel of your Tumblr account with just a few clicks, no design skills or Web coding knowledge required.

Read this How to Use Tumblr article if you want to start tumbling and be live online in 15 minutes or less.

Tumblr has its own page explaining what tumblr is and touting the many functions and things you can to with Tumblr.
