Web Design In A Nutshell

About.com Rating 5

From , former About.com Guide

If you want one book that covers everything then this would be the one. It is not an HTML primer but it does cover the tags you need to perform the tasks needed to design a Web page. It also has several sections in the beginning of the book that explain basic HTML and the structure of tags. It even goes into the formatting of text and the creating of links. From there it jumps right into how to add images and objects to your Web site.

After it goes over all the basics you will be ready to go full force into the realm of Web design. You will now go step by step through how to create tables, frames, and forms. By the time you are done with these 3 chapters you will be an expert, ready to create just about anything. There are many different types of images that you can add to your pages and this book will go over some of the most popular so you can see how to add them and what tools you may need to create your own.

Now you are ready for the really fun stuff, the interactive stuff. You will learn all about animated GIFs, audio, video, and more. Not only will you learn how to add these types of files to your site, you will also learn how to create them. Each chapter has an overview that tells you all you need to know about each type of file. It's amazing how much information you will find here.

Also included in the book are sections on JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheets, DHTML, and XML so you can add even more interactivity to your pages. At the end of the book you will find a section on how to embed fonts and characters from other languages onto your site.

Not only does this book tell you what to do it also tells you how to do it. Each tag is explained thoroughly before moving on to the next step. Examples are given and entire samples are printed for you to see. The finished product (what it will look like on your browser) is also shown so you can see immediately what all the code does.

This book is very easy to use and follow. It talks to you in simple, easy to use, real language instead of computer jargon. Web Design In A Nutshell is just what the title says. Everything is here from the most basic HTML tags to the more advanced JavaScript and XML. You will be an expert designing pages for your friends in no time.
