The first half of the book explains how to use Miva Script. It starts out explaining what all the terms mean, terms such as variables, expressions, functions, characters and strings. Next it will tell you about the features that you can use to control the flow of script execution. Then you will learn to interact and communicate with your users using scripts and forms.
By the time you reach chapter 5 you will have the basics down and will be ready to start learning to access other documents from your pages. Here you can learn to create your own "File Uploader" program and other such things. Then you will learn to access databases and to send and receive email from your Web pages.
If you are interested in selling things on your Web site then you will love what you will learn in chapter 8. Now you can create your own online shopping store. You can program it to calculate anything you want it to including shipping charges and sales tax, and you can even get it to accept credit cards your business has signed up for.
The second half of the book is full of useful information that will help you use the information explained in the first half of the book. There is a "Miva Script Reference" that has all the script tags and system functions listed for you alphabetically and explains what each one does. It even shows examples of each. Then there is a "Quick Reference" that shows you the basic structure of all the things you can do with Miva Script. This is great when you are trying to create the code for something because it shows you all the tags needed to accomplish each task effectively.
After this there are sections that show the codes needed to add characters to your pages, characters such as Š, Œ, ‡ and many more. You will also be shown the codes needed to change colors on your pages. These can be used to change your backgrounds, text and links.
This is a very good book for the beginning Web designer who wants to add more to their site then just what can be done using HTML and wants to use Miva Script to do it. Miva Script is fairly easy to learn and once learned is easy to use and this book makes it simple. In no time you will be coding like a pro.
