Why You Can't Link to Web Site Pages on Your Computer
Can It or Can't It Be Done?

By , About.com Guide

I sometimes get asked the question, "Why can't other people see the Web site I created on my computer?" The answer is both simple and slightly complicated. The simple answer is, "Because your computer is not part of the Internet".

Even though your computer is connected to the Internet, it is not part of the Internet. You can link to files on your computer using C://, but only you will be able to see them. When another person clicks on one of these links their computer tries to find this file on their computer, not yours.

If you want someone else to be able to view your files you must upload the files to your Web site and link to their new URL name.
