You can't possibly link to every page on your site from your homepage. This would make your page too long and look very messy. So what pages should you link to?

Bio
They biography page tells people who they are reading about. Why would they want to read a diary about a person they know nothing about?
This page also adds to your welcome message. If you said in your welcome message that you are a Star Trek Fan then you can add to that in your bio by telling them why you are a fan and what kinds of things you like to do because of it.
Most Current Entry
Of course you will want to link to your most current entry. This is a good starting point for people when they start reading your diary. If you change this link each time you create a new entry then your readers will always be able to keep up on your most current events.
Recent and Popular Entries
To peak your reader's interest some more you could have a small section on your homepage to link to some of your most recent or most popular entries. Make sure you have a title and a brief description for each entry you link to. The more enticing you make it the more likely they will be to go there. Linking to these pages is not necessary but makes for a better viewing experience.
Archives
Linking to all your old links from your homepage is a good idea. The archive page is where you can add links to all your old entries. When you get a new reader on your site they will want to know who you are and what this diary is about. They can best do this by reading your diary from the beginning if they want to. For your more seasoned readers this provides an easy way for them to find entries they have read that they really liked and may want to read again or link to so other's can read it too.
Contact Page
If you want your readers to be able to send you email then you can provide a contact page. You don't need one of these. You could just place your email address right on your hompage instead but if you do create one you can use it to double as a FAQ for your site. A FAQ is a page that answers questions that are asked of you frequently and is a great way for your reader to get answers to questions you are tierd of answering over and over.
Pictures
If you are including a picture page or album on your site then it may be a good idea to link to it from your homepage. That way when people want to know who you are they can just go and see your picture.
WebCam
Voyerism is very popular on the Internet, hence Webcams. If you want people to watch you and see what you are up to while you work on your computer, or elsewhere, then you should have a Webcam. A Webcam can be a really great way to get people to come back to your site if you make it interesting.
Forum and Chat Rooms
Community is the single best way to get people to continue coming to your site. If you can get a person to post a message or question to your forum with the promise of a response then they will come back to see what your response is. If you can get a whole bunch of people to post messages or questions to each other then they will all come back to see the responses and will be more likely to post another message. This will lead to a group of people that come to your site on a regular basis.
Anything Else Of Importance
Do you have a special interest in something? Gun control, education, child rearing, religion? If so you can create special pages on your site to tell about your ideas and theories. When you create a page like this you will want to link to it from your homepage. This will really give your readers a chance to know who you are and what you are all about.
