Pages Load Slow or Incorrectly

By Linda Roeder, About.com Guide

Problem #3:

Pages Load Slow or Incorrectly - The reader found the page he wanted but it took forever to load or things are jumping around on the page while loading. Worse yet, the page loaded but it didn't load right.

Solutions:

1. Use smaller graphics or don't use as many. Graphics take longer to load than text so keep them to a minimum.

2. Make sure your HTML is good. Messy HTML will cause some browsers to take longer reading your page. HTML written in the right format will make your pages load faster.

3. Make sure your entire Web page is less than 20 KB in size. That includes graphics and everything. Your goal should be to get your page to load in less than ten seconds over a slow connection.

4. Check for bad links, within your Web site and links to other Web sites.
