So you want to add sound to your Web site? Maybe you want to add a message or a song that you have recorded yourself? Wouldn't that be great? Here is where you will learn to record that message or music.
First we will get you prepared to record a message. Then we will actually record something. Next week, we will prepare everything and upload it to your hosting service and finally add the code to your page to get it running.
Preparing To Record
Before you get started you will need a couple things. First of all you will need a recording program. For the purpose of this tutorial we will be using Real Producer by RealNetworks.com. I hope this tutorial will help you use this program as well.

Next you will need a microphone. If you don't have one you can pick one up at just about any store that sells computer supplies. They vary in pricing from a couple dollars to over a hundred but you don't need to spend a lot of money for this, an inexpensive one will be just fine.
Sound files can be very large and will take up a lot of space. Make sure you have enough space on your hard drive. You will need a couple megabytes for each recording you intend to make.
You will want to write down what you want to say and practice saying it so it will sound better when you record it. Once you start recording you will want to do some practice recordings before you do the final version so you can make sure you sound alright. You may want to adjust the distance from you to the microphone or the volume of your voice.
Then you will want to make sure that it is quiet. You don't want to have distractions or background noises that will interfere with the way your recording sounds. If you want to play a little background music, that's fine, just be careful that you are not using something that you don't have permission to use. If you use music that has a copyright by someone else you probably won't have any problems but you are taking a chance that you may.
