About your site: part 1
profile page 1 , 2 , 3
Why did you start writing your Web site?
Originally I wanted to share cool websites that I found on the web. My "Old Chicago" section began when I found an old brochure and realized that many people were looking for information about the place. My fashion history section began because I wanted to share my drawings with other fashion history buffs.
What is your site about?
history: silent movies, fashion history, pop culture of the past, nostalgia..
local stuff: Old Chicago Amusement Park, Chicagoland TV & radio..
art: picture to print & color, a little bit of clipart..
other stuff: jokes & comics, lots of links
Why do you write a site about history and nostalgia?
I enjoy sharing what I have learned with other people who might also be interested in my hobbies. I'm fascinated with the idea that you can find anything you want on the web, and I want to contribute to that.
Do you communicate with readers of your site?
yes...they ask questions both in my guestbook and by e-mail. I try to answer their questions, or let them know where they can get more information. Sometimes they write just to say they like my site.
How much email feedback to you receive from your site? Is it mainly positive or negative?
I get a few e-mails per month, so far they've all been positive!
Have you met any new friends because of the site?
not really
Has your motivation changed over time?
It goes in spurts..sometimes I'll work on my pages nonstop, sometimes I'll spend a week not even touching them.
How has it changed your life?
It's given me something to be proud of, and it's given me a chance to express myself.
Do your friends and family know you keep this site/read it? If so have you had any really negative experiences as a result? If not why?
They know about it...and while they've complimented me on it, it's not really something they're interested in themselves.
How has your Web site benefited you? Your friends? Or total strangers?
My fashion history page and Old Chicago page have helped the most people. I know that many people doing fashion history research have found helpful info, and many people who fondly remember Old Chicago have told me the page brought back pleasant memories for them.
