(About.com) DIARY PROFILE

Name Of Site: So anyway...
URL: http://bonni.net/blog/

If you had to do it over again from the beginning, what would you change?
Not very much, other than maybe censoring some of my more angry rants a bit more carefully and being slightly less negative about a few things.

Do you have any favorite entries?
Can't think of anything just offhand, actually.

What do you look for in an online journal, as a reader?
I like sites that are personable and readable (doesn't have to have perfect grammar and spelling, but tons of bad writing really bugs me). I like to see the person behind the writing, and get a picture of their life.

Do you use your real name in your diary?
Yes. I use my real name for everything. I chose my own name, so I'm quite partial to it.

Do you censor yourself in your diary?
Yes. I keep the strong language to a minimum and I stay away from really intimate topics. I like to keep my pages PG-13 (or G rated) because while I do personally swear strongly and regularly, I don't think everyone wants to read that sort of thing and I can write without having to resort to foul language or writing about really strong topics. And while I like to be honest and candid, there's only so much I'm willing to show the world. The metaphor I use is that it's like knowing people can see into my house through my windows. I don't mind people seeing me, but I don't walk around naked (although I would if I wanted people to be able to see that).

Do you ever use fiction techniques such as imaginary dialogue?
No. I could, because I can write fiction, but my jounal is mostly in editorial/conversational style from me to the reader.

Do you ever significantly edit/rewrite past entries? On occasion I've gone back to correct grammar or spelling errors or to fix links or typos. I have very occasionally deleted entire entries because they were no longer relelvent or I thought better of having posted them, but that hasn't happened very often.

Would you describe your diary as traditional, essay, novel, rant, letter to someone, a theme journal, or something different?
All of the above.

What is "one word" that would describe your diary's content?
Eclectic.

As an online diarist do you consider yourself a Web celebrity, an exhibitionist, a public figure, a writer, an innovator, or something different?
I consider myself a person who writes prolifically and has found a good outlet for that.

How do you tackle the mechanics of Web design and how do you deal with your frustrations when you can't do what you envision.
This isn't a problem for me. I'm a professional web designer.

Why do you think people are interested in what you have to say?
I honestly don't know. I think perhaps it's that I write with an amusing, candid sort of style. I do know how to tell a story and a joke, and I think it comes across.

What compels you to design beautiful pages and to write from the heart (beyond just the usual question of "why an online journal")?Who knows? Creative endeavor is one of those great mysteries of the universe.
