(About.com)FIRST ADVENTURES IN CYBERSPACE

Name Of Site:  My Piece Of Heaven
Story By: Di

In 1994, I purchased my first personal computer. At that time, my goal was to research our family tree. A friend of mine pointed me in the right direction of signing up for a membership on a local BBS (bulletin board system). During my spare time, I got to know many of the Sysops (system operators owners). I always marveled at their sites and was intrigued to know what was happening on the other end. Thus begins the curiosity that has developed into My Piece Of Heaven. Up until this time, my only experience with computers was as a computer typist.

During the summer of 1999, I brought myself up-to-date and logged onto the Internet for the very first time. A close friend of mine had been online for a while and had her own website. I was very intrigued and in awe of all the beautifully displayed web sites and subject matter available. Over the next few months, I decided I wanted to build a website and badgered my poor friend endlessly. I was pointed in the correct direction of finding backgrounds and graphics and advised I could ask my friend anything. Once I understood the general concept of web developing, I was amazed and said "Hey, I can do that" (if I can do it, believe me you can too).

As a firm believer of "Give Credit Where Credit Is Due", I also was also in contact with a lot of the graphic artists whose never ending knowledge helped me tremendously. I am now hoping to make my own graphics through PSP7 in the future. Currently I am learning HTML and hope to be doing all of my HTML before the year is out. I'm also hoping to change careers and go back to school for web design and development along with taking courses for the graphic end of things.

Although I cannot spend a lot of time online due to mental and physical injuries, I wanted to educate the general public about "The Illness That No One Talks About". It seems to be working as I've had many thank you notes sent and a lot of input from my viewers.

Sincerely,

Di
