Web Page Editors and FTP Clients
Create and Upload Your Site

By , About.com Guide

If you don't know HTML and have no intention of learning it you can still create your own Web site, it's simple. All you need is a program called a Web page editor. There are many such programs out there some of which are free to the public or come with other programs such as browsers. Using these programs only requires basic computer skills. If you are on the internet and know how to use your browser then you can probrably use these programs with ease.

If you already have Netscape or Internet Explorer you might have an editor. If you don't already have the one that comes with the browser then you can get it from the browser's home page. Of course those are not your only choices.

On my Web Site Editors page you will find some more to choose from. Most of these you can download for FREE. Some of them offer a trial version so you can see if you like it before you buy it.

After you have created your Web page you will want to upload it to the Internet so other people can see the beautiful work you have done. Unless you have signed up with an online community that offers Web pages that you can create right from their site you will need an FTP client.

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and that is exactly what it does. It transfers files from one computer to another, in this case from your computer to the server of the company you signed up with to host your page.

When you sign up with someone to host your page they will give you some info that you just put into the appropriate places in your FTP client and click connect and you're there. You have just plugged into their server. Now you can send your files over and later, if you need to, you can copy them right back to your computer.

That's all there is to it. Simple! Happy page making!!
