Share With The World

By Linda Roeder, About.com

You've decided that you want to create your very own personal Web site. You learned the code or found a template you like. You signed up for a free hosting service and added your code to it with the Web page editor you downloaded. You may have even paid to get your own domain name to create your site with. Now you just need to figure out what to put on your site.

Try an Online Diary

Some people keep diaries of their lives on their web sites. Each day, or almost every day, they add a paragraph or two to their Web sites to keep their readers updated on everything that goes on in their lives. Keeping a Web site like this one is good because it makes you update your site on a regular basis which keeps it from getting stagnant and boring. The down side to keeping an online diary is that you need to have an interesting life to get people to come back and read it each day. I don't know about you but I don't think anyone would be interested in reading about my life on a daily basis.

Write About Your Passion

If you don't want to keep an online diary you might want to consider keeping a Web site about something you feel strongly about like a hobby or interest. Try to think of what kinds of things you are passionate about. What would you be able to write a Web site about AND be able to keep writing about? In other words, you might be able to write an initial Web site but if you don't keep the Web site fresh, buy updating it on a regular basis, then you might as well not have written it at all. There are thousands of unkept Web sites out there that were written years ago and then forgotten about. You don't want that to happen to your site, do you?

Maybe you like a certain TV show or movie. Or maybe you like sports or arts and crafts. Maybe you like helping people and want to write about how to lose weight, how to find the right recipe or how to educate children. No matter what you choose, as long as it's something you are passionate about, you will do great.

Family, Pets and You

Lots of people write their Web sites to show off and tell about their families. They show pictures of their children and tell about babies first steps and all the major events their kids are going through.

Similarly, some people write about their pets. Pets are often thought of as members of our families and the Web sites about them show that. Some pet Web sites are written in such a way as to look like they are written by the pets themselves.

If you don't want to write your Web site about pets or family members you could just write one about yourself. Similar to an online diary, but without the journal, many people write sites just to tell the world about themselves. You could talk about the places you've been, things you've seen and done. You could write about anything and everything that is you.

Holidays

Do you have a favorite holiday? Most people do. Whether it be Christmas, Hanukkah, Halloween, Easter or something else, you can write your Web site about it. You can include family traditions, favorite recipes, activities or anything else you want to include to celebrate the holiday of your choice.

Anything Else You Want

There are many, many things you can write a Web site about. Have you considered writing a site, or just a page, as a memorial to someone you love or something you feel strongly about? How about writing about your family history or the culture or religion you belong to?

How about writing something for fun? There are sites out there that are written just for the fun of it and their are sites that are written so that you can have fun or just have a good laugh.

Just about anything you want to write about, you can. Most hosting services will not allow you to write an adult site or a hate site but besides that you are pretty free to write anything you want. Whatever you decide to write about just remember to have fun.
