Social Travel Networking Heats Up

A ton of social travel startups are slugging it out, with more joining the fray every week. Yet another social travel network surfaced in beta this week, Called Flights with Friends.

It aims to take the pain out of group travel by offering online tools for booking flights, hotels and expeditions together, while encouraging everyone in the chosen group to talk about the various plans in a way that everyone else can see. (Visit Flights with Friends website.)

Other recent players entering the social travel market include Airport Chatter, a mobile guide to airport terminals, and Trip Tern, a service based in India designed for creating detailed trip itineraries. Trip Tern's special sauce is automation; it automatically generates detailed itineraries which are supposedly optimized and which users can edit. Trip Tern is in beta with an expected launch this spring.
