Google's Big Mistake: Getting Rid of Google Page Creator, What Do You Think?

Thursday August 7, 2008

Are you kidding me? Google getting rid of Google Page Creator, this must be a joke. No, it's for real. Google says they're going to be transitioning all Google Page Creator websites into their new Google Sites. Excuse me, but Google Sites doesn't come close to being as good as Google Page Creator. Why in the world would Google choose to keep the lesser of the two?

It reminds me of my bank. They had a merger and decided to transition to this old, outdated, online banking system instead of the fabulous one they had. Who knows what they were thinking. Then they had another merger and went with an even more outdated banking system. I'm ready to switch banks because of it.

People who use Google Page Creator do it for many reasons. One is that it's so super easy to use. Another is that there's an HTML option. Yet another is the ability to add ads to their websites. Google Sites has none of this. So why in the world would Google stick with it and get rid of the far superior Page Creator? I'm totally lost on this one. Someone explain it to me.

Tell me what you think about Google getting rid of Google Page Creator and replacing it with Google Sites. I’d like to hear from both sides on this so I can better understand where Google’s coming from.

I used Yahoo’s webpages for years and when I found Google Pages, I fell in love with the ease with which I can build simple sites (just for friends and family as part of our holiday newsletters), and haven’t gone back to Yahoo since. So, I would be really, really bummed if Google got rid of their pages.

It seems like a poor move from Google. Although I can understand the desire for a company to only have one integrated site creator, not 2.

I can see why they would only want one also, so why did they create google sites when they already had google page creator. And why get rid of the better of the two? That’s what I’m trying to figure out.
