Yahoo! Geocities Web Site Hosting

Tuesday October 3, 2006
See what the Yahoo! Geocities hosting service has to offer you. Get all sorts of themed templates and extras like guestbooks, maps, search boxes and a lot more for your Yahoo! Geocities Web site. Create your Yahoo! Geocities Web site with the easy site builder or with HTML.

I have been using Geocities for about a decade now. I've used it for many projects over the years. I find it to be a good hosting service. Yahoo! bought it years ago and it's changed a bit. For instance you can no longer FTP your Web pages from your computer unless you have a paid service with them.

The really cool thing they used to do that they don't do anymore is they had cities and roads for you to host your site on. When you chose a Web site address for your Web site you first chose a country or a theme and then a road for your site to live on. This became part of your Web site URL. You could browse for similar sites by virtually walking the streets.

I still like Geocities and often refer people to it as long as they don't want to use FTP.
