Blog But Don't Mention Who You Work For

Now that blogs have become increasingly popular people are taking notice. When you write something on your blog you have to be careful not only of people trying to cyber-stalk you or steal your identity, now you also have to be careful that your boss may find your blog and read it.... In this article by the Chicago Tribune Blog away, but mention employer at your own risk they talk about the risk people take when they post about their jobs on their blogs.

Before I tell you more about the story I want to point something out. In the very first sentence of this article they say that blogging is "fairly new". Although it may be new if you compare it to a traditional written diary it is hardly new if you compare it to the World Wide Web. The words "blog" and "blogging" and even "weblog" are fairly new but online diaries have been around since the 80's.

Anyway, blogs are now popular and people are looking for your name on search engines and finding you. If you choose to mention your name on your blog or the name of your company then you risk offending someone by what you write on your blog.

Honestly, I have seen articles about people loosing their jobs because of something they wrote on their blog. What I want to know is how they can fire someone because of something they wrote about their own personal life.

Granted, some companies have policies against talking about trade secrets and pay that the employee had to agree not to talk about as part of their employment. Over that though, if the person is just talking about what they did that day I don't see how this offends the company and why they should lose their job over it.

What do you think about this? Give your opinion on the forum!
